Two years ago, when my children were aged four, five, and seven our van broke down in the small town of LeQuille, Nova Scotia. It was around 9pm and the kids were very tired. We were able to call our roadside assistance service and get the van towed to a garage to be fixed, but we were left stranded at a convenience store. We tried to call the only taxi driver in the area, but he was unreachable. No motels were within walking distance. We called all of the local motels to see if one would be able to pick us up to stay there for the night. No luck. A sweet older couple heard us on the phone and realized the unfortunate situation that we were in. They owned an extra cottage in the area right beside their own. They offered to let us stay there for the night and wouldn't take any money for it. In the morning they came over with milk for the kids to drink and some fresh fruit too. They even took out life jackets for the kids to go for a swim in the lake before our ride came to pick us up. My kids still talk about that amazing act of kindness! Thanks Jaff and Jan!!
